Match Report

Trowbridge Town
7 - 2
 Cheltenham Town

Friendly
Monday, March 30th, 1959
Att. 960
3:00 PM Kick-off

Scorers: John Davies (2), Vic Lambden, Edward Murphy

Trowbridge supports left Frome Road on Easter Monday wishing that this had been a Southern League match instead of a friendly.
Cheltenham who are top of the North West Section on the Southern League had 8 first team players.
Trowbridge forwards played as well as we have seen them this season. Vic Lambden proved and enterprising and vigorous leader, while John Davies gave us glimpses of those brilliant days when Sheffield sought his signature.
Trowbridge changed over with a 3-1 lead which Davies increased in 2 minutes. In the 47th minute he dribbled through , was fouled, recovered and was sensibly allowed to continue by referee Ken Hanham. When almost on the bye-line Davies squared the ball to Murphy to head home (5-1). Carnie replied for Cheltenham before Lambden headed a brilliant goal; two minutes later Davies got another with a splendid shot. Attendance 960.
Team: Bird; McKenzie, Edwards; Henderson, Richard, White; Barnett, Daveis Lambden, Payton and Murphy.
