Scorers: Danny Reeves, Paul Shanley (2)

When Trowbridge lost at Down Ampney in October I was on holiday. Apparently the weather that day was dreadful and I think they brought some of it with them today! This match was totally dominated by the strong winds. Down Ampney with the wind at their backs forced a very early corner which found itself wind assisted in the back of the Trowbridge net. Trowbridge did manage to mount a couple of useful attacks in the first half but mainly it was a case of battling against the wind not just the Down Ampney players. Inevitably a second wind assisted goal occurred, the ball looping over Chris Vaughan's head to give the away side a 2-0 lead. The half ended at 2-0 and with the windy conditions continuing, most people expected a turnaround in the second half. This proved to be true to a certain extent. although it has to be said that Down Ampney coped with the wind better in the second half than Trowbridge did in the first. Things looked good though when a Paul Shanley corner went straight in, thus repeating the feat accomplished by Down Ampney earlier on. With the score at 2-1 and the pressure on the Down Ampney defence it was a shock to see the away side increase their lead to 3-1 when they were awarded a penalty. Will Astall the unfortunate guilty party. Trowbridge did not give up though and pulled the game back, first to three two with a goal from close in by Danny Reeves, then later a headed goal by Paul Shanley following a cross from Chris Tricker. Just when the crowd thought the game would end in a draw Down Ampney broke away and scored the winning goal with only few minutes left after a mix up in the Trowbridge defence. Credit should go to both teams though for trying their best in the terrible conditions
