Good away win for Town.
This match was fairly even until the unfortunate Steve Norman headed a Michael Barnes cross into his own net to give Trowbridge the lead with 13 minutes gone. This boost led to a spell of Trowbridge pressure and an Adam Nunn free kick that went just over the bar when Dave Percival was floored. The real damage came after 20 minutes with two quick goals in succession. Michael Barnes curled a lovely shot into the top right corner of the net and a minute later, Matt Cooper robbed a defender of possession and slotted the ball home to make it 3-0. Trowbridge continued to have the upper hand for a while, Dave Percival shooting wide after 29 minutes. Easington then started to play some good football and created some good chances before the half time break. Just after the half an hour mark, Steve Worthington shot just wide of the left post and Steve Norman nearly made up for his earlier mistake with a chance that went just over the crossbar following a corner taken by Gareth Source. Trowbridge then had Craig Guthrie to thank for keeping a clean sheet at half time; making two point blank saves from Steve Worthington. Michael Barnes picked up an injury in a tough but fair tackle just before halftime and was replaced by Martin Little at the restart. Easington continued to fight back in the second half, Joel Bloxham shooting over the bar after 58 minutes and another great save by Guthrie, tipping a shot from Worthington just over the bar on the hour. The best chance for Trowbridge in the second half fell to Dave Percival. Having sprung the offside trap he saw his shot rebound from the crossbar. There was no doubt that Easington were the better side in the second half but there were fine performances in defence, particularly Lee Wilson & Luke Smith that almost ensured a clean sheet until Shaun Lambourne grabbed a deserved consolation in injury time.
