Town progress in League Cup.

Trowbridge progressed in the Hellenic League cup despite a late comeback from Winterbourne. Adam Nunn nearly gave Trowbridge an early lead after 3 minutes hitting a post with a low drive from just outside the penalty area. Both sides cancelled each other for a while until the 24th minute when a great solo run and shot from Dave Percival was thwarted by a fine save from Tom Sheppard, the Winterbourne goalkeeper. Five minutes later Sheppard made an even better save from a terrific shot by Adam Nunn having been set up by Andy Bloodworth. Just before that Winterbourne had had their best chance of the first half when Simon Mansfield got his head to a cross, which went wide with Craig Guthrie beaten. Although Winterbourne played their part, Trowbridge looked the more likely to score and grabbed the lead just before the break. A Dave Percival cross sailed over everyone and crept into the far corner of the net.

In the second half, Winterbourne pushed forward looking for an equaliser and forced a few corners but the Trowbridge defence prevented any direct shots at goal. This allowed Trowbridge to exploit the space left at the back and they nearly added to their lead in the 69th minute. Michael Barnes scraping the top of the crossbar with a scorcher of a half volley that was hit on the turn. The second goal came in the 75th minute. Dave Percival springing the offside trap to run through and score with a shot across goal that just crossed the line before Dave Mitchell followed up to make sure. Trowbridge then went close twice before Andy Bloodworth made it three. His first shot was saved but he made no mistake with the rebound. Winterbourne refused to lie down and hit back with two late goals. Mark Nash with a good shot from just inside the area and James Mainstone with a finish from close range. Deep into injury time, Winterbourne forced a corner but the Trowbridge defence cleared and justly deserved their passage through to the next round when they will be at home to Clanfield.
