This match was played on Saturday on the Trowbridge ground, the weather being most unpleasant rain falling during the whole time. Good play was out of the question as large portions of the ground were under water. Trowbridge won the toss and kicked down hill with the wind in their favour. After about ten minutes play, Clark kicked the first goal for Trowbridge, and Willis soon afterwards secured a second, a third kicked by Clark being disallowed on the plea of off-side. Upon change of ends nothing farther occurred, although Trowbridge still continued to press their opponents. At call of time, Trowbridge were victorious 2 goals to nothing.
For the home team, Willis. Clark, and A. G. F. W. Stancomb played best, Wheeler and Thring being most conspicuous among their adversaries Trowbridge: Snailam goal, F. W. Stancomb (capt.) and Pulham, half backs, W. White and 0 Haden, backs, A. G. Stancomb and Willis, middle, H. Clark and G. White, left side, Stevens and Carey, right side. Rev. Wheeler's Jennings goal, Jennings and Smith half backs, Wheeler and Saunders middle, Thring and (Chivers left side, A. N. Other right side. (Rev. Wheeler's team played 3 men short.)
