These association teams met at Trowbridge on Saturday afternoon, the visitors played nine men and their opponents ten. Melksham won tbe toss and at 3.30 p.m., F. W. Stancomb kicked off for Trowbridge, the ball being sent close against the opposite goal, where, after a few minutes play it went behind off a Melksham player, and a corner back took place without any effect. After this the Melksham goal was repeatedly in danger and time after time the ball went behind where it was brought out and kicked oil only to be again returned. Once Melksham series of free kicks took the ball near the other goal, but the danger was only momentary and they soon again had to act the defensive. Several more corner kicks fell to Trowbridge, who kept the ball unpleasantly near their opponent's goal till half time was called, and on ends being changed Bigwood re-started the ball for but they again had adopt defensive tactics, for the good dribbling of A. G. Stancomb and Willis speedily asserted itself, and a good shot by the former was remarkably well saved Davis keeping goal, but Trowbridge were not to be denied and shortly afterwards, from a fierce scrimmage on the Melksham goal, A. G. Stancomb scored for his side which he supplemented soon afterwards by another; and again some few minutes later a third, the visitors disputing it on the ground of a free being claimed prior the kick. The play after this was rather slow, varied by some corner backs for Trowbridge, something like eight or ten of the latter falling to their share without success, but Just before time Clark added another goal to the Trowbridge total which left the last named club victorious by three goals and one disputed goal to nil. Willis, Shum, Fulham. Carey, Clark, and Messrs. F. W. and A. G. Stancomb played well for Trowbridge throughout the game, and Burgess, Bigwood, Vennell. and Davis were very good for their team.
