In the first half hour of Trowbridge Town's friendly match with Bristol St. George at Frome Road on Saturday the 1.000 spectators saw some good fast football. Afterwards, however, the game lapsed and provided little real excitement, except near the end, when Ken Hulbert, Trowbridge's right-back, was carried off with what was later found to be fractured leg.
In the first 30 minutes of the game the Bristol team, who were all amateurs, were quite equal to Trowbridge and showed some really fine movements, in which Smith, their inside-left, was outstanding. Trowbridge forwards' shooting was weak at the beginning of the game, although they combined much better than in the previous game against Chippenham. Haddon on the right wing went steadily, but showed some good movements, and his knee, which had kept him out of the game since the beginning of the year, appeared to standing up to the strain well until the last few minutes, when he injured it.
The other wing, however, although at times producing some good moves, seemed to be somewhat lacking in zest and were often too far downfield to press home the attack.
After about 30 minutes play Allaway scored the first of his hat-trick when bundled bouncing ball through the defenders, and a few minutes later Dixon got into the Bristol team penalty box, centred, and Allaway dived full length to head a really fine goal. This seemed to take some of the sting out of the visitors and Trowbridge gradually got on top.
Soon after the restart Allaway scored his third with a shot placed in the corner of the goal just out of the goalie's reach. From there it was practically all Trowbridge, and Dixon scored No. 4. Although for the last ten minutes Trowbridge were only playing with ten men they were not really troubled although Magnoni scored for Bristol with practically the last kick of the match.
