At Clandown, on Wednesday, in the Western League. Div. 1. In the first few minutes Clandown were pulled up for offside. R Dallimore then sent across two good centres, but both were cleared. Webb struck a home upright but the ball was cleared for a corner. This was well placed, and Nuth kicked off the home goal line, with Newbury well beaten.
Vince handled well in the visitors' goal, and then Compton, on the Trowbridge right wing, put over a good centre, and Webb, running in. shot well, but Nembury punched the ball out for a corner.
The home side attacked, and two fine left wing runs were made, but the final efforts were poor. Vince had to save from R. Dallimore next, and two quick corners followed to Clandown. After 30 minutes, the home side took the lead. GARRETT scoring after Pratten had made a fine right wing run. Just after this Pratten headed outside.
When play was resumed in the second half Vince was brought to his knees in saving in the first couple of minutes Then Trowbridge forced a corner, Newbury making a tine save from this. After about 10 minutes Clandown went further ahead, PRATTEN netting from a cross pass by Garrett.
Play had now deteriorated compared with the opening half. Webb was very prominent in the visitors' attack, and he forced two corners, but both were cleared. Both sides attacked In turn, with Vince being called upon more than Newbury in the home goal, but there was no more scoring.
