Trowbridge were well and truly beaten in the return game at Hardenhuish Park on Monday before crowd of 3,500 apart from season ticket holders. True, Webb was injured early on and was a passenger before finally going off about halfway through the second half, but Trowbridge were never in the hunt, and only a brilliant display of by Vince kept the score within bounds. The crowd gave Webb an ovation for a plucky display when he retired. Trowbridge never approached the form they showed on Good Friday. With Hamilton still unfit from the Good Friday match. Chippenham favoured the right-wing formation of Harris and Kearney, and Osman at right-half, as played on the Dorchester game, and Alan Bates was preferred in goal. James had a good match, and Titcombe and Barclay were sound backs, with Boyd and Haycock bearing their full share. Haddon never really got going, and Trowbridge suffered in consequence. A mistake by Barclay let in Haddon, but Bates showed fine anticipation in covering the ball, and saved for a comer. A quick move up the Chippenham left ended when Davies was brought down by Hulbert when racing through, and Titcombe gave Vince no chance with the penalty kick. Again James looked to be through, but Hulbert rather luckily deflected the shot for a corner. It was all Chippenham and Davies drove into the side net at terrific pace with the defence all at sea. A typical Webb effort saw Titcombe concede a corner in clearing with Bates unsighted. Back went Chippenham and Vince just managed to baulk Davies, who had been pat through perfectly by James. Chippenham's second goal was not long delayed, James 'being the scorer after a cleverly placed pass by Kearney Vince out of position. In a Trowbridge spell Titcombe headed away on the line. Following two Trowbridge corners Bates saved a left-foot drive from Haddon, and confidently gathered a header from Grimason following a free kick well placed by Lovesey. The second half was very largely a duel between Chippenham and Vince, whose dashes from goal and his saves were equally effective. The only goal came about halfway through shortly after Webb had left the field. A long pass up by James and he went on to give Vince no possible chance. Near the end Bates brought off on of the best saves of the game from Hancock.
