Scorers: Jim Grimason, Harry Haddon

The City Reserves, without a Combination game, brought their team to Trowbridge for a friendly, which the Town won, and won on their merits by 2-1. The City were captained Alec Eisentrager, the German, who played as an amateur for Trowbridge before going to Ashton Gate. He appeared to have lost much of his speed and enthusiasm compared with his Trowbridge days, but the crowd gave him a great welcome, and some chatted with him afterwards.
Trowbridge played more effectively a team and the City attack, lacking cohesion, were generally well held by the Town defence, in which the halves were again a dominating factor. Trowbridge first goal was the result of Hancock s persistent following-up. A harmless looking ground shot was running goalwards, and Cook came out to gather. Hancock hustled him, however, resulting in Cook fumbling. And the ball ran to Hancock, who calmly kicked into the empty goal. In a City attack Vince was rather lucky shoot out a foot and deflect a stiff shot by Steeds. Webb was Trowbridge's danger man, and a cross shot from him was misjudged by Cook, but there was no player near enough to touch the ball into the net.
Trowbridge changed over with a goal lead, and Cook soon after the restart saved a smart header from Greenland. The City initiated many clever attacks, but they could not break through the defence, who covered superbly. The Town goal had a narrow escape, however, when with Vince out Hulbert nipped back and kicked off the goal-line. Cook again deflected a ball round a post from Greenland. Hancock, quick to seize the smallest chance, again nipped through and passed to Grimason, who squared the ball from the left and Haddon ran in to head a picture goal in the 80th minute of the game. Hancock almost scored a third, but did not kick the ball (from Greenland) hard enough and Cook cleared on the goal-line. Near the end Eisentrager scored with sharp shot into the top comer of the net - a goal very reminiscent of many he scored for the Trowbridge - but he did little during the game.
Teams: Trowbridge - Vince; Hulbert, Sutherland; Lovesey, Tuck; Marshall; Haddon, Greenland, Grimason, Hancock, Webb. City Reserves - Cook; Stone, Mitchelson; Tovey, Compton, Presley; Williams, Steeds, Boyd, Eisentrager, D Prentice.
