Match Report

Cheltenham Town Reserves
1 - 4
 Trowbridge Town

League (Western League Division One)
Saturday, October 13th, 1951
3:00 PM Kick-off

Scorers: Cyril Greenland

Cheltenham Reserves, with four first team players in their side, were convincing winners. Trowbridge possessed individual brilliance, but their teamwork was only a shadow of teams which have visited Cheltenham in the past. There were weaknesses in defence, and Tuck, centre half, was handicapped by an injury. Trowbridge were fighting a losing game after seven minutes when Riley scored. Shortly before Grimason had struck an upright with long shot. Trowbridge improved and Greenland scored an equaliser in minutes, but Cheltenham got bang on top again to score two more goals through centre-forward Elliott in a space of two minutes. Shortly after the interval Elliott made the score 4-1, and although against such long odds Trowbridge showed commendable improvement, the home goalkeeper seldom looked troubled. Green was not very confident in the visitors' goal. Haddon was the most effective of Trowbridge's forwards.
