Trowbridge entertained Chelmsford City in the first ever Southern League encounter at Frome Road. New Player-Manager John Henderson led his team on to the field watched by civic dignitaries and within 15 mins Trowbridge were leading 2-0 with goals by Eddie Murphy and Ron Jackson (penalty). The penalty was awarded for a foul on centre-forward Vic Lambden, Chelmsford fought their way back into the game to finally draw 2-2 The game was watched by just over 2,700 spectators.
