Scorers: Steve Eade, Adam Smith

Trowbridge kicked off their first match of the millennium with a 2-1 win, but they were made to work hard for it. The game started very slowly as the faithful traveling fans braved a cold January wind. There was little to warm them up until a cross by Adam Smith hit the top of the crossbar and later in the half a well struck free kick by Gary Holding was pushed over the bar. Despite dominating the first half, Trowbridge were unable to score and the match remained goal-less at half time. The second half saw Trowbridge kicking down hill and mostly it was one way traffic as they looked for the first goal. Two more well struck free kicks were taken but both were dealt with confidently by the Burmah goalkeeper. The break finally came when a cross sailed over the Burmah 'keeper and Steve Eade managed to get a head to the ball to make it 1-0. The lead however, did not last long and Burmah managed to break away and equalize after an error in the Trowbridge defence. Trowbridge continued to look the more likely with the odd worry as Burmah broke from defence. Eventually Adam Smith got the better of the Burmah rearguard when, after beating two players he struck a good shot to beat the keeper from the edge of the penalty area. There were a couple of scares after this and Chris Vaughan had to be on his guard in the Trowbridge goal as Burmah searched for a point. In summary, the best team won, but only just!
