The Bees travelled to Somerset on a cool Tuesday evening at the end of August with one thing in mind: find the back of the net!

Having played 180 minutes of Regulation time without doing so, but also without conceding, The Bees had shifted to a 3-5-2 formation in the hopes of ending their goal drought – but it was the hosts that took the lead on 12 minutes, a great finish by Harvey Lear.

Town looked to hit back immediately and got their reward when, on 14 minutes, Milburn was set free on the right hand side, with his low cross being met by Jack Sterling, who fired in a shot from 8 yards out.

The Bees then took control of the game, with Alfie Francis rising highest from a Milburn corner on 29 minutes to put The Bees in front – a great 3 days for the defender, who captained the side on Saturday for the first time, and then got his first goal for the club this evening.

Just 7 minutes later, Lewis Wayman chased down a wayward ball from The Bees to keep it in play, before sending a great cross in to George Bendle – his shot was saved well, but Sterling was there to fire in the ball from close range.

On 41 minutes, The Bees got a fourth – great play by Leigh Rogers, with his cross deflecting off the Frome defender and on to the post, before – guess who – Jack Sterling was there to poke it home from a yard out to secure his hat trick – his 6th goal in 4 games for The Bees.

The second half started in a lively fashion, with Milburn almost immediately connecting on to a Ryan Baggs cross to fire it toward goal from around 10 yards out on the left, only for the Frome keeper to make a great save.

The Bees then came close with several chances over the next 10 minutes, with Fox and Baggs combining accidentally – the former’s shot going wide until Baggs stuck out a leg to direct it just over the crossbar.

Milburn then tried another audacious effort, which was saved equally well by the Frome keeper, before Rogers follow up was sent just over.

Dom Kilbane then tried his luck with a cross-turned-shot, although the keeper made a comfortable save at his near post.

Lewis Wayman then had a golden opportunity to put The Bees 5-1 up, the cross coming in from Bendle and the header being sent agonisingly just wide of the post.

The game then entered a lull, with the momentum swinging in Frome’s favour – they fashioned a few chances but nothing to test Ramsey.

On 70 minutes, The Bees went on the attack, with Wayman putting in a delightful ball, which was headed in off the post by Milburn.

Almost immediately, Frome responded, with Tom Brown finishing well to give them a consolation goal.
The game then entered a further lull, with neither side largely able to trouble the keeper’s, with Charlie Barber being sinbinned on the 90.

With the clock ticking down, and the game virtually over, Miluk went racing through and was brought down in the box, winning The Bees a penalty.

Leigh Rogers stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left, to give us the final word and all 3 points.
