Whilst the two title favourites were both maintaining their 100% records the headline makers on a hot late summer's afternoon were Marlborough Town who became the first side to defeat Trowbridge Town in 2019, ending their unbeaten run which had stretched to 16 games. Marlborough made a good start to the game and had a couple of chances early on, but they eventually broke the deadline with half an hour gone when Aaron Presley was pulled back and a penalty awarded. Presley took the penalty himself and safely tucked it away to make it 1-0. Marlborough extended their lead on the stroke of half time when Luke Connolly beat the Trowbridge keeper to a free kick heading the ball into the net to make it 2-0 to Marlborough at the break. Second half saw Trowbridge up their game looking to extend that long unbeaten run but some resolute defending from Marlborough kept the visitors out until 15 minutes from time, when Aaron Masson scored his fourth goal of the season. Trowbridge pushed for an equaliser and despite going close on a few occasions Marlborough held out to take all three points in what has been a good start to the season for them. |
