Report:
The return match between these two clubs was played Saturday, on the Trowbridge ground, the top of Timbrell Street. The Devizes men, winning the toss, elected to kick with the wind. They appeared to have the advantage at the start, and drove ball towards the Trowbridge goal, but the home team, by playing well together, forced the ball back again. Gregory soon obtained a touchdown for Trowbridge, but it was disputed and abandoned. Just before half-time A. J. G. Stancomb succeeded in making a fine "dribble,” and ” middling the ball well, the first goal was obtained for Trowbridge by Spackman. After the change of ends the Trowbridge goal was never danger, the Devizes men being unable to get past the half-backs.'' Two more goals were eventually kicked by A. J. G. Stancomb, and at the conclusion of the game Trowbridge had obtained three goals to nil. The forward play of Messrs. Willis, W. Webb, Spackman and Newcombe was extremely good, and had the ground not been so bard, the chances are the Devizes team would have received a more severe beating. The game was played according to the Trowbridge Club rules. Annexed are the names of those who played:—Trowbridge— Messrs. Willis (captain), Newcombe, Spackman, Gregory, Olding, W. Webb, H. Knight, A. J. Stancomb, and Shum, forwards, F. W. Stancomb. and Pulham, half-backs; and Snailham, goal keeper.
