PURTON'S WEAKNESS Purton had only themselves to blame for not winning outright in a game which produced much crude and aimless football, for their forwards, and particularly D. Hobbs at centre forward, were guilty of some atrocious misses. After being outplayed in the first half, Trowbridge improved in the early part of the second half, during which they got the equaliser, but Purton were well on top for the last 20 minutes. Hancock was Trowbridge's best forward, and Kibler, who came in at late notice for Gabb, had quite good match. In an uncertain defence Paviour, if sometimes beaten for speed by Painter, the former Chippenham Town outside right, who was outstanding in the Purton attack, gave his colleagues an object lesson positional play. Winning the toss. Trowbridge kicked down the slope, bat Purton attacked, and D. Hobbs was nearly through, a wild clearance conceding a corner. At the other end Hancock got in a good shot which forced the goalkeeper to give away a corner. Painter came into the picture with some speedy runs on the right wing for Purton, but he missed an easy chance when the ball came over from the left. When Trowbridge retaliated Pearson completely missed a lovely pass from Kibler. Back went Purton, and a back headed away on the goal line after Jones had missed a high centre from Painter. After 25 minutes Painter scored for Purton with a high shot in the far corner which beat Jones all ends up. Purton continued to make the running till halftime, but missed several good chances. TROWBRIDGE EQUALISE Trowbridge opened the second half strongly, and Hancock missed badly with the goal at his mercy. Hobbs, for Purton, had also left his shooting boots at home. After 20 minutes Trowbridge got a well-worked goal. Pearson started the movement and Hancock sent the ball on to Kibler, who cut in to score from close in, beating the goalkeeper completely. In the next minute Shailes was lucky to turn another shot from Kibler round the post. Once more Purton got on top, but their shooting got worse.
