TROWBRIDGE WIN AT YEOVIL
Victory by 4-3 at Yeovil provided encouraging news for Trowbridge supporters, for one has to delve deeply into the records to find Trowbridge's last win on this ground. Last season, when Trowbridge were running hard for the League championship. Yeovil got home surprisingly by a goal to nil. In 1948 the teams drew 3-3, but Yeovil were winners in 1947, 1946 and 1945 by substantial goal margins. In September. 1945. Trowbridge beat Yeovil at Trowbridge by the "cricket score" of 17-1. Ken Abrahams scoring seven times. Yeovil had their revenge by winning the return by 5-1. Last Saturday's victory was the more creditable because Dennis Tuck had to call off late, and Crook deputised. Webb opened the score after Grimason had shot and saw the ball stop dead on the goal line. Then Dagg challenged the goalkeeper, who was hugging the ball, and both were bundled into the net. Haddon added a third, and Yeovil replied to make the half-time score 3-1. A minute after the interval Yeovil further reduced the arrears, but Dagg scored a fine goal when Abrahams placed the ball past the backs. Yeovil's third goal was from a penalty, conceded by right-back Sheppard. Vince parries the shot but failed to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. It was an exciting game, with the Trowbridge defence showing well during heavy Yeovil attacks in the closing stages. Report from The Wiltshire Times
