HONOURS EVEN The eagerly awaited F.A. Cup tie between Trowbridge and Paulton revived memories of last season's battle at Paulton the same competition. Trowbridge then had a full professional side, and they won 4-1. So far this season Trowbridge have scored 25 goals in four matches, including a friendly, and their supporters were hoping for more goals, to put them in the next round. There was a large crowd at the kick-off, including a contingent from Trowbridge. At a third spin of the coin Paulton won the toss and chose the advantage of the wind. Trowbridge made a spirited attack, but the movement was spoilt by Compton being offside, and just after that Oakes made a great save from Haddon, who was playing well. Paulton had a spell of attacking, and then the Trowbridge forwards launched attack after attack on the Paulton goal, but Oakes made many brilliant saves. Paulton then came away, but Sutherland broke up the attack. After 30 minutes Hancock gave the town the lead, and a minute afterwards a nice move by Primrose to Griffey saw the latter equalise. Vince just failing to get to the ball. The interval came with the score 1-1. BRILLIANT SAVE The second half opened with Trowbridge attacking, but after Webb and Abrahams had both hit the crossbar, the sting seemed to go out of their attack. Paulton were aggressive for long periods. Vince making several good saves. Hancock was injured, and after treatment went on the wing for a while. He had been the best of the forwards until his injury. Haddon had a great chance but his shot was wide. In the last five minutes the Paulton forwards swept down the field, and a winning goal the home team looked certain, but Vince made a brilliant save. Haycock played a great game, but the Town forwards were not so convincing as in previous matches. Dando, the Paulton left back and Somerset County player, took the eye. A high wind throughout the match considerably affected the play. Teams: Paulton Rovers; Oakes. Brooks. Dando; Bull. Jones. Nuth; Griffey. Primrose. Rogers. Stock, Heal. Trowbridge Town: Vince; Sheppard. Sutherland: Lovesey. Tuck, Haycock. Haddon, Hancock, Compton, Abrahams, Webb.
