Match Report

Trowbridge Town
2 - 0
 Chippenham United

League (Western League Division One)
Wednesday, April 23rd, 1952
3:00 PM Kick-off

Scorers: Harry Haddon, Dennis Hancock

Trowbridge, without Tuck at centre-half (suffering from a pulled muscle), won the points chiefly through player manager Haddon's fine opportunism, and a generous share of good luck. It was a perfect centre which Haddon sent across for Hancock to head a grand goal after 35 minutes, and the second goal, in the 70th minute, was a terrific drive by Haddon himself which beat McLoughlin all the way.
The United, who were without right-back Liddle, had very hard luck shortly before half-time, when Allen headed against the crossbar, and again in the second half, when a shot from Cowie was luckily deflected just outside an upright by full-back Sutherland. On another occasion Dagg, with an "open" goal, got "entangled" and allowed Vince to clear.
Both teams found a greasy ball difficult to control, but there was a definite end-of-the-season flavour about the play. Six minutes from "time" Haddon had to retire with a badly-bruised knee. Teams:
Trowbridge - Vince; Hulbert, Sutherland; Grimason, Lovesey. Marshall; Haddon, Greenland. Skinner, Hancock, Hazell.
Chippenham Utd - McLoughlin; Preece. Lewis; Nutt. Hares, Edwards; Allen, Cowie, Dagg, Arms and Elms.
