Scorers: Harry Haddon, Ernie Marshall

Trowbridge's win at Weymouth last Saturday was no fluke. Indeed, had their forwards taken their chances they must have won by a more convincing margin. Their inside forwards were not good marksmen. It was Marshall's great goal early in the second half that inspired Trowbridge, and shook the Weymouth defence to the core. Trowbridge's left half collected a harmless-looking ball near the edge of the penalty area. It bounced awkwardly, and Marshall chested it down. Again it bounced tantalisingly, and instead of tackling, the Weymouth defenders retreated. This gave Marshall just the opportunity. He calmly got the ball under control, and without the slightest hesitation cracked it hard and high into the roof of the Weymouth net. Stone, in goal, hadn't a ghost of a chance.
Shortly afterwards Haddon outwitted everybody, and sent in a good cross shot - dead on the target, but the home right back. Dally, had positioned himself on the goal-line. He fell, and as the ball spun dangerously on the goal-line Dally swept it out with his hand. A penalty was awarded, and Haddon scored Trowbridge's No. 2. After this Trowbridge fell back on defence, determined to hold this exciting lead at all costs, and they succeeded alter some very close calls, in which their defence remained cool and effective, especially Sutherland. Marshall and Vince. Millar beat Vince once - and it was the most spectacular goal of the three. As far as the first half was concerned, there was much good football by each side, with the defences on top. Trowbridge's attack were more cohesive, but lacked a telling marksman, and Grimason's tireless foraging kept the home defence on tenterhooks. It was their powerful half-back line, however, who impressed. This surprise win put Trowbridge into third place the league table.
Trowbridge team: Vince; Hulbert. Sutherland: Lovesey. Tuck. Marshall: Haddon. Greenland, Grimason, Hancock, Webb.
