Portland United
2 - 3
 Trowbridge Town

League (Western League Division One)
Saturday, November 3rd, 1951
3:00 PM Kick-off

Scorers: Harry Haddon, Dennis Hancock

Trowbridge failed to sustain the convincing team work which had accounted for Weymouth the previous week, and were rather surprisingly defeated by the lowly-placed "Islanders". When Denis Hancock put Trowbridge ahead after five minutes things looked bright for them, especially when the team really looked like prospective champions. But they allowed Portland to settle down and gradually gel on top, with the result that Stone equalised from a penalty. Vince, the Town goalkeeper, was again in tip-top form and saved his goal from downfall time and again with superb saves. The teams crossed over on level terms, but Portland always looked dangerous when play was resumed, and little surprise was caused when Longdon gave them the lead. Trowbridge fought back, however, and Harry Haddon equalised. Then Dodson gave Portland victory. Vince continued to play well although suffering from an injured arm. Hulbert. Welch and Lovesey showed up well in the visitors' defence, and Greenland and Haddon were lively raiders.
