Match Report

Stonehouse
1 - 2
 Trowbridge Town

League (Western League Division One)
Saturday, September 22nd, 1951
3:00 PM Kick-off

Scorers: Harry Haddon

Stonehouse, unbeaten in a league match at home for two seasons, preserved their proud record last Saturday, but Trowbridge may well have broken it but for some fine goalkeeping by Comley in the Stonehouse goal, and little more steadiness their forwards. Trowbridge were without McGhee and Greenland in their forward line, both still unfit as a result of injuries. Both sides played keenly from the start, and the venue attack veered swiftly from end to end. Vince made many creditable clearances in the Trowbridge goal, and revived an injury to his left arm which handicapped him for a time. He could not be blamed for Stonehouse's first goal, however. A swift attack caught the Town defence badly positioned, and Colbourne was left with the easiest scoring chance. Hancock had bad luck with a fine shot which struck the home crossbar. Stonehouse led by 1-0 at the interval. Thomas scored again for the home side in the second half, and Haddon replied for Trowbridge with one of his "specials” from the right wing which gave the goalkeeper no chance to save. Stonehouse have a most capable side and their presence in Division 1, to which they won promotion last season, has strengthened the competition in this section.
