Trowbridge Town won their first Western League Division I match by 6-2 at Paulton on Wednesday evening. Though the visitors deserved their win in the end they were given a shock in the first half by the enthusiastic play of the Rovers, who turned over with a 2-1 lead. Shortly before the interval Paulton had bad luck when they lost their goalkeeper, Perkins. He had saved a hard shot, almost at point-blank range, and as Denis Hancock ran in to the rebound Perkins threw himself at the ball and received an accidental kick in the face. He was taken to hospital for treatment, but was able to leave, and it is good to know the injury is not too serious. Under this handicap the Rovers had to play exceptionally hard in the second half against a greatly improved Trowbridge side, who scored five goals. Trowbridge's scorers were Lovesey (2), McGhee (2), Hancock and Greenland. |
