After a pointless Christmas Trowbridge opened 1959 well with a 2-1 victory over Dartford in a thrilling match played on a mud-bound pitch.
Trowbridge opened the scoring after only five minutes through Eddie Murphy, but Dartford equalised six minutes later. After this Trowbridge always looked the better side but were only able to convert one other chance, and this was a brilliant goal by Mike Baker after a good build-up.
The game was watched by 1589 spectators.

Trowbridge had completed half of their league matches and had only 12 points being in 13th position (17 in league). The top 11 were to complete in the Premier Division next season.
