Trowbridge Had Their Shooting Boots
This headline from the Wiltshire Times announced the fact that Trowbridge beat Tonbridge 9-1 at Frome Road. Manager Jimmy Bowle introduced a new centre-forward, Alan Peacock, and he scored one of the five first half goals. Archie Thorburn took the major honours with four goals and the others were scored by Ken Wrintmore (2) and Terry Evans (2). Trowbridge were in fourth position in the league after this result, behind Bath City, Gloucester and Canterbury. This result made some amends for Trowbridge's shock exit from the F.A Cup the previous week, The Town having been beaten at home by Bridgwater Town by 3 goals to 2. The attendance was 869.
