 Bath City

An Easter Monday crowd of 1,461—one of the best attendances at Frome Road this season—saw Trowbridge put up a commendable show against promotion-seeking Bath City, who have been doing exceptionally well in recent weeks. But manager Bert Head could not have been very impressed with their un-impressive play on Monday, though it should be borne in mind that it was their third match in four days. With a bag of five points they had every reason to be happy, even though they were a shade lucky to take both points from Trowbridge.
There were many occasions when a little guile and steadiness in front of goal could have brought Trowbridge goals, even allowing for the solid play of City's defenders, notably centre Gover and left half Morgan. Bath were certainly struggling bard at times, but the Town just could not get in a telling scoring effort. On the other hand City got their victory goal with a shock shot in the fourth minute, and right winger McInch, the scorer, must surely be thanking his lucky stars for such a blessing. City got a free kick well out on the right wing. McInch stubbed the ball which rolled a short distance, and fight back Stacey, succeeded in getting a back pass to Mclnch, who made no mistake with his second chance. With a fierce, first-time drive he sent the ball from fully 25 yards through a crowd of players into the far corner of the Trowbridge net. That proved the end of the scoring entertainment, though City fans were obviously expecting many more goals after such an electric start. But Trowbridge gave as good as they received from then on, swarming to the attack only to lose by the one goal.
