League (Wiltshire Football League Premier Division)
Saturday, November 10th, 2001
Weymouth Street, Warminster
2:30 PM Kick-off

Scorers: Mark Connor

Trowbridge gained important points to maintain their league challenge by defeating a much improved Marlborough team. The only goal of the match coming after just five minutes, Mark Conner the scorer after Jerad O'Pray passed from a long clearance by Sheppard. Trowbridge nearly increased their lead through Adam Nunn a few minutes later but the ball went straight into the goalkeepers arms. After fifteen minutes Marlborough very nearly equalised, they had two efforts cleared of the line with Sheppard beaten. Although Trowbridge kept up the pressure for the remainder of the first half particularly though Adam Nunn down the left wing, there was always a chance that Marlborough might get back into the game.

The second half proved to be a tough encounter as Trowbridge held on to their slender lead. They produced more goal-scoring opportunities than Marlborough though. O'Pray headed over the bar from a good Chris Henry cross after 47 minutes and a fine solo run from O'Pray five minutes later produced good save from the goalkeeper. Three minutes later the same player was denied again, having rounded the keeper his goal bound shot was cleared by a defender. Later, Adam Nunn also had two vicious shots saved by the Marlborough goalkeeper. Marlborough looked dangerous on the break and forced one or two corners in the later stages but despite their efforts were unable to take anything from the match.
