Match Report

Pewsey Vale Reserves
1 - 3
 Trowbridge Town

League (Wiltshire Football League Premier Division)
Saturday, September 1st, 2001
The Recreation Ground, Pewsey
3:00 PM Kick-off

Scorers: Paul Shanley

Trowbridge suffered their first defeat of the season at Pewsey in a match where despite having much of the possession they lacked the necessary bite up front to create goal-scoring opportunities. Chris Tricker gave the visiting supporters an encouraging start with an excellent chip shot which was just turned over the bar by the Pewsey goalkeeper but it was the home side who took the lead when a thirty yard effort from Dorland bounced up on the hard surface and went over Chris Vaughan into the net. Paul Shanley squared the match with a thirty yard free kick that David Beckham would have been proud of!

On the balance of play Trowbridge would have felt quite confident at the start of the second half but it was not to be. Pewsey took the lead through Tom Ritchie after 62 minutes and Mark Field added a third to wrap up the scoring. Trowbridge pushed Brent Murden up front to try and salvage something from the game and he did have a headed attempt turned round the post by the goalkeeper but they never really looked like scoring. A disappointing performance against a competent but not spectacular Pewsey Vale Reserve team.
