Trowbridge retained their unbeaten home record by defeating top of the table, Stratton in a closely fought contest at Woodmarsh. Both teams failed to produce any clear chances in the first half with both defences looking solid. The football played though, was far from boring as both sides showed their ability to turn defence into attack when the opportunity arose. An example after 20 minutes saw Waleed Bakali thread the ball through to Adam Nunn who was just beaten to the ball by a defender to concede a corner. On the half hour, Simon Kitchen showed good skills in midfield to feed the ball to Gavin Eyre on the right wing but the Stratton defence was equal to the challenge. Dave Mitchell headed just over the bar with five minutes of the first half remaining. Trowbridge had had the better of the possession in the first half but it was now all to play for in the second.

The second half began in similar fashion with an excellent move across the midfield in the 53 minute. Dave Mitchell's resultant shot rebounded to Gavin Eyre who shot across goal with Simon Kitchen advancing. Unfortunately the speed of the ball beat Kitchen and then went wide of the post. Stratton very nearly took the lead on 72 minutes. A ball was crossed and Adam Sheppard palmed the ball away. A Stratton forward picked up the loose ball and crossed to the far post but when the ball was headed back the defence cleared after a scramble. The winning goal came after 75 minutes. Dave Mitchell held the ball up well and laid the ball back for Simon Kitchen to strike the ball sweetly on the half-volley from 25 yards The shot flew over the Stratton goalkeeper and into the net. This was a fine performance by Trowbridge after the setback last week, taking the points that their efforts deserved.
