Shrewton United 4 - 0 Trowbridge Town

League - Wiltshire Football League Premier Division
Tuesday, September 29th, 2020, 7:45 PM
Attendance: 54
On Tuesday night Shrewton United played their sixth home game of the season, with Trowbridge Town the visitors, and for once manager Joe Sheldrake was able to name a virtually unchanged team from Saturday's narrow defeat to title favourites Wroughton. The only change was forced by the suspension of striker Craig Lewis. Shrewton started on top and were rewarded for their early domination when James Dolman volleyed in past the Trowbridge keeper at his near post after his initial shot was blocked for his fourth goal of the season. After going behind Trowbridge upped their game and Shrewton were unable to build on the early lead and it remained 1-0 at the interval. The start of the second half saw Shrewton once again make the early running and they extended their lead when Dolman scored again when he got on the end of a cross to the far post to fire in for his fifth of the season. Ben Jenks had scored a great solo goal for Shrewton in their opening game of the season against Ludgershall Sports following a long run from midfield and he was at it again in Tuesday night's encounter. This time he picked up the ball deep in his own half and went on a run through midfield which saw him beat five players before firing in a shot from the edge of the 18 yard box which the Trowbridge keeper could only parry into the net to make it 3-0 to Shrewton. Shrewton added a fourth late on when Charlie Utterson scored for the second game running, firing in after Conor Cutler's shot was parried to him by the Trowbridge keeper to make the final score 4-0 to Shrewton. The win lifted Shrewton into fourth place in the table and no doubt manager Sheldrake will also have been pleased with the clean sheet with Shrewton having uncharacteristically conceded 18 goals in their opening six games. The defeat, coupled with other results the following night, saw Trowbridge drop to 10th place.
